In graduate school I worked on a series of videos titled Actions to Create Happiness in which I performed various actions that made me happy. They were mostly low-qualty VHS recorded to mostly show the environment rather than me. For example one was about skipping and my feet could be seen skipping past the ground-level camera while the audio increased and descreased as I circled the camera. A second involved playing Yahtzee which, again, was mostly about the audio of the dice shaking and the intermittent cries of “Yahtzee!”. As these are all on video from the late 90s I wasn’t able to find any footage unfortunately (or maybe fortunately). For this project, I would like to continue the series to include a happiness from this time period that I never recorded- walking on a sidewalk in which the lights are synced to a pedestrian walking pace so the light changes to green as your foot steps off the curb. This would be a meditative and non-competitive gaming experience that hopefully elicits happiness in the player.
